UP CM Yogi Adityanath Conducts On-Site Inspection of UP SSF Second Battalion Construction in Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath  carried out an on-site inspection of the ongoing construction of the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force (UP SSF) Second Battalion campus in Gorakhpur. During the visit, he instructed officials of the Public Works Department (PWD), the executing agency, to accelerate the pace of work while maintaining high construction quality. He emphasized that monsoon rains after June often disrupt progress, and therefore, the project should ideally be completed four months ahead of its October 2026 deadline.

CM Reviews Project Model and Construction Progress

CM Yogi first examined the architectural model of the upcoming battalion campus before visiting the construction site for a detailed review. Senior officials briefed him on project dimensions, manpower deployment, infrastructure layout, and current progress.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that the battalion will have a total capacity of 1,000 personnel, and that the physical progress of the project currently stands at 10 percent, with about 500 workers engaged at the site. They added that all major structures except the tallest multi-storeyed building are scheduled to be completed by October 31, 2026.

Expressing concern about potential delays during the monsoon, the Chief Minister said, “Speed up the work. The rains after June affect construction; therefore, efforts must be made to complete the administrative building, barracks, and essential infrastructure by June 2026.”

He also directed officials to increase the use of machinery to ensure timely progress.

CM Directs DM to Resolve Soil Shortage

During the inspection, officials highlighted a shortage of soil for land filling due to the low-lying nature of the area. CM Yogi immediately called District Magistrate Deepak Meena to the spot and instructed him to ensure quick availability of soil by carrying out dredging of nearby drains and rivers.

He further directed the executing agency to verify the Maximum Flood Level (MFL) before completing the final phase of land filling.

Orders for Pumping Station to Prevent Waterlogging

Pointing to the waterlogging issues in the low-lying Tal Jahda area, the Chief Minister directed the DM to construct a pumping station near the regulator on the Maniram embankment to ensure adequate drainage during the monsoon months.

Local MLAs Mahendra Pal Singh (Pipraich), Bipin Singh (Gorakhpur Rural), and Pradeep Shukla (Sahjanwa), along with senior administrative, police, and PWD officials, accompanied the CM during the inspection.

A ₹343-Crore, 50-Hectare High-Tech Campus

The UP SSF Second Battalion campus is being built on 50.157 hectares in the Tal Jahda area at a cost of approximately ₹343 crore. Of this, ₹186.33 crore has been approved for residential buildings and ₹156.39 crore for non-residential structures.

PWD’s Building Construction Division is executing the project.

State-of-the-Art Infrastructure Planned

The upcoming campus will feature state-of-the-art, high-tech infrastructure, including:

  • Lift-enabled Type A & B residential towers (G+13 floors)

  • Multi-storey Type IV and V buildings

  • A lift-equipped administrative building (G+4 floors)

  • Quarter guard, parking areas, sentry posts

  • A hospital, indoor gym, dog kennel, toilet blocks

  • A 400-capacity barrack

  • A grand parade ground with a saluting platform

  • Rainwater harvesting systems

Construction began on June 21, 2024. While the main complex is targeted for completion by October 2026, Towers A and B are scheduled to be ready by March 2027.

Background: Formation of UP SSF

The UP Special Security Force was established in September 2020 by CM Yogi Adityanath to ensure security of courts, major religious sites, and sensitive installations. By June 2021, five SSF battalions were formed in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Mathura, and Saharanpur. A sixth battalion was later set up in Ayodhya to secure the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi complex.

The Gorakhpur-based Second Battalion currently oversees security at Gorakhpur and Kushinagar airports and is operating out of the PAC campus until its dedicated facility is ready.

Approach Road Under Construction

The state government is also constructing a two-kilometre-long approach road connecting to the SSF campus. The PWD commenced work on March 18, 2025, and the project—worth ₹23.73 crore—has achieved 30 percent physical progress. It is expected to be completed by March 2026.
